I install Unico Systems high velocity HVAC and need to make 4" diameter holes in ceilings and 3.5 inch holes in the floor for the vents. The Unico recommendation is for the ceiling holes to be in the corner and 5 inches from each wall.
Which model would you recommend? Jason |

Hi Jason,
For the ceiling holes I think your best bet is the X-200. If you place its safety shield in the corner touching both walls your 4" hole will be 5.5" from each wall. This should make it very fast to cut without measuring and without having to trace a circle for a spiral cutter or jab saw. With all the holes often required with a Unico installation it is advantageous in terms of speed and no cleanup at the customer's home to use the X-200 with its safety shield to catch all the shavings. Like all the Hole Pro hole cutters you can adjust the cutting depth so you don't accidentally cut a hidden wire or pipe. For the holes in the floor you could use the X-200 as well. In September of 2007 we will be introducing a new model X-125 that will enable you to cut the 3-1/2" holes within 2 inches of a wall. The X-125 has a hole cutting capacity of 5 inches and a 7-1/4" outside diameter safety shield. The X-125 has the same soft rubber gasket to seal the shield and the same ball bearing insert as the other shields so the cutter spins while the shield stays fixed to the floor. No scratches to worry about and fast cuts in seconds through OSB, plywood, or hardwood flooring up to 1" thick. And if you are still installing conventional HVAC sized ducting the X-305 12 inch hole cutter works great and uses the same blades as the X-125 and X-200 adjustable hole cutters. Bruce |

We will be upgrading the X-125 to a X148 with a hole cutting capacity from 1-7/8 inches up to 5-7/8" using the same 7" diameter ABS composite safety shield. The X-148 hole cutter will use the same high speed steel or tungsten carbide blade sets as all the other Power Series X models hole cutter kits.
Ideal for Unico System, SpacePak and other small diameter high velocity (SDHV) air conditioning installations where a perfect hole is needed in either a confined space or as close as possible to a wall. With the tungsten carbide blades able to cut sheet metal, fiberglass, as well as most conventional building materials this tool will make for faster installations in commercial, home, and marine heating and air conditioning applications. |
