The ABS composite plastic safety shield (same tough but lightweight material used for hockey helmets) has a ball bearing insert so the hole cutter can spin while the shield stays pressed against the work surface, trapping dust and shavings.


The shield with its ball bearing insert makes it easy to keep the hole cutter perpendicular to the work surface while cutting in any position, even holding the drill with only one hand and cutting into a ceiling. The shield with its soft rubber gasket protects the work surface and keeps the dust and the shavings inside the shield. The shield and the adjustment knob on the hole cutter shaft controls the cutting depth, which reduces the chance of accidentally cutting a wire or pipe hidden behind a wall or ceiling.
