We are cutting holes in Hardie board laid up as overlapping rows and as 4x8 on exterior walls.

In both situations and there was a question raised in regard to cutting lap siding how the blades would react if the hole intersected at the lap of the siding?

Would the blades break when they hit the edge, would the operator get tied up in the drill or would they cut thru? Any thoughts or ideas?

The best tool for your intended use would be our X-305 twin blade hole cutter using the tungsten carbide blades. You can order one from our website at www.holepro.com and we ship out of Sparks, Nevada so you will receive it in 2 business days.

For heavy gauge sheet metal sheet metal we currently recommend the single blade hole cutter the CL-285 as the single blade puts less stress on the hand drill's bearings. For all other uses the twin blade units are superior in every way. Our kits include the ABS composite plastic dust shields that have a soft rubber gasket for better seal and less chance of scratching the work surface and keep the abrasive dust out of your worker's eyes and lungs.

The X-305 has a 3/8" thick measure bar compared to 1/4" for the X-200, and the X-305 will cut from under 2" up to 12" diameter holes in a wide range of materials. The trick with hard materials such as plywood (with their cross laminations and glue) and fiber-cement board is to be sure to align the three flats of the hole cutter shaft with the 3 compression parts of the drill chuck and to not force the cutter but rather let the blades do the work. With two blades the hole cutting goes rather quickly (under a minute with 3/4 plywood) and much faster than any alternative means for cutting large holes.

Spare tungsten carbide blades are easily stored in the plastic carry case and the each of the twin blades can be replaced by use of a single screw (allen keys are included in the kit). The pricing on the website is for a set of 2 blades for the X-series hole cutters.

We are also testing a single blade for the X-305 for cutting with sheet metal (the extra blade holder would serve as a counter balance).
